JRC’s Racial Equity Task Force (RETF) invites you to join JCUA’s Jackie Baldwin, Director of Anti Racism & Equity at JRC to learn about the Kirva Institute’s Balance of Care framework inspired by Valarie Kaur’s vision of Revolutionary Love: Love for self, Love for others, Love for opponents.
All communities and groups create hierarchies of care that naturally privilege those closest to the self. Jewish tradition expresses this system of prioritization, offering hierarchies of philanthropic giving/Tzedakah.
These hierarchies of care become distorted in racialized contexts, perpetuating racist hierarchies that uphold white supremacy and reinforce anti-Blackness. A dramatic paradigm shift is needed in our care approach in order to be effective and successful in antiracist efforts.
Join us on Sunday, January 26th from 10:30-2:30 for didactic and interactive learning. This workshop lays the foundation for Kirva Institute’s Dismantling Racism from the Inside Out (DRIO) program which uses the Jewish spiritual discipline of Mussar to subvert biases and hierarchies created by racism.
We’ll have snacks and light lunch.
