Shabbat Vayinafash: a Casual, Musical Shabbat

April 17, 2026 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join JRC’s Jam Band for a family-friendly Shabbat filled with food, music, singing and community!  Gather round the tables for a potluck meal, casual shabbat singing and music as we let the ruach – joyful spirit – of Shabbat refill our hearts. Join the band or enjoy the gifts of our community at this service that feels a bit like a spiritual hootenany!

Due to the limitations of the technology we use to transmit our sanctuary audio to Zoom, and the variety of music, amplification, singing, and speaking at this event, we are not able to provide a multi-access option for this service. You may join our lay-led Minyan our community B’nai Mitzvah on Saturday, April 26 if you would like to attend a service remotely this weekend.

This Shabbat experience is different from “all other nights,” but will always include an opportunity to pray for healing and remember our loved ones with kaddish. See you for Shabbat Vayinafash!

Where does Shabbat Vayinafash come from?  Why does it sound familiar?
You might recognize this as the last line of “Veshamru”  (u’vayom ha’sh’vi’i shabbat vayinafash, https://www.sefaria.org/Exodus.31.16-17).  It references the 7 days of Biblical Creation, and recalls that the “work week” of creation ends as God ceases from work and draws a breath of rest and renewal.
