Discussion on the Themes of Home and Exile
Led by Shira Vardi & Ellen Kenemore, in-person

On Tisha B’av, JRC members held a meaningful conversation about the themes of home and exile. Join the Israel-Palestine Working Group, Immigrant Justice Task Force, and Racial Equity Task Force for a similar conversation on Yom Kippur. We will explore what home and exile mean to each of us, in the context of the Yom Kippur theme of “return again”.

The Hebrew Teacher Novella Discussion

Please join us on Yom Kippur afternoon for a discussion of Maya Arad’s timely novella, The Hebrew Teacher from the book with the same title. Arad’s thought-provoking story investigates the reflections of an Israeli immigrant who devotes her academic career to building a Hebrew language and culture program at an American university, and her troubled relationship with a young post-Zionist colleague. The book is available via this link, or at local libraries, & on Hoopla. All are welcome to attend, even without prior reading.

Yom Kippur Meditation
Led by Ellen Rosen-Kaplan & Marty Rosenheck, in-person

The Jewish mystical tradition of meditation, including Kabbalah, provides us with a rich set of approaches and tools to connect with our spirit. As we near the culmination of the Days of Awe, we will sit together to experience a path to Teshuvah, a return to our loving, compassionate, peaceful selves. All are welcome! No meditation experience needed.
