Our Early Childhood Staff
Mollie Bass, Early Childhood Coordinator
Not only is Mollie a valued member of the JRC community, she brings with her 20 years of education experience. Mollie holds two master’s degrees in elementary and special education, as well as certification as a Learning Behavior Specialist for preschool-age 21. She has taught preschool through elementary school and has a background in Judaica and Hebrew as well. Mollie will support our Early Childhood Center and will also be an integral part of our efforts to grow programming for young children at JRC.
Janet McDermott, Early Childhood Teacher
Janet has been a committed professional in the field of early childhood education for over 25 years. She believes in the importance of a classroom environment that encourages children to explore and learn through play. Janet loves teaching at JRC Early Childhood Center, especially because of its strong emphasis on relationships and community. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, exercising, spending time with her family, and taking long walks with her dog, Scout.
Kelly Lavan, Early Childhood Teacher
In 2008 Kelly first experienced JRC Early Childhood Center as a parent of twin daughters in our twos class. “Right away, I appreciated the nurturing support offered to the whole family. The following year I joined the teaching staff and have since enjoyed working with and learning from young children, their families, and my colleagues”. Kelly holds a Master’s in Education from the University of Illinois, Chicago and has previously taught in CPS elementary schools.
Carol Shukur, Early Childhood Teacher
Carol has been teaching at JRC for the past 20 years and holds a degree in Special Education from the University of Illinois. Carol’s three adult children all went to JRC Early Childhood Center! “I adore teaching the adult/tot class and watching the joy and wonder of young children. I love watching them become comfortable in a new environment, and I love reading books, singing silly songs, and providing fun and new experiences”.
Susan Salidor, Musician and Magic Maker
Susan Salidor is a singer/songwriter with more than 100 songs and eight albums to her credit. She is also an early childhood music specialist who can be described as no less than magical! Susan is the author of two picture books based on her songs: I’ve Got Peace In My Fingers and One Little Act of Kindness. Her music can be purchased and/or streamed on Spotify, iTunes and other online platforms, and her music videos and concerts can be seen on YouTube and Facebook.
