Kehillah – Religious School
Kehillah, JRC’s religious school, supports learners of all ages & abilities in cultivating joy & resilience by teaching sacred practices & values. Our Shabbat-based program is infused with joy, allowing us to experience Shabbat together as a multi-generational community, while our Kehillah learners engage in a project-based curriculum.
Every individual in our community is loved for who they are, celebrating their gender identity & expression, sexual orientation, racial identities, degree of Jewish knowledge, or their multifaith families. We partner with parents to cultivate the Jewish values that will serve our children throughout their lives, in their personal relationships and as global citizens. We are a community of learners, with the emphasis on the word “community.”
Jewish education is a lifelong pursuit involving the heart, the mind and the soul. Kehillah provides JRC children with the building blocks they need to engage throughout their lives in Jewish exploration, community, and activism.
Kehillah Shabbat Program
On Shabbat morning we gather as a community to learn, to schmooze, to pray, & to “do Jewish” together. Scheduled learning for Pre-K – 6th grade takes place from 9:30 am – Noon on Saturdays. In addition, Kehillah offers Shabbat services & programs for parents & congregants of all ages, centering the importance of life-long Jewish learning.
1:1 Hebrew Tutoring
4th – 6th graders receive a private 30-minute lesson each week with flexible options for either an in-person or virtual session.
7th Grade – Embracing Jewish Identity through B’nai/Brit Mitzvah
Our 7th graders learn on Tuesday evenings & Saturday mornings as they explore their own Jewish identities through Jewish values, Hebrew, Torah reading & tutoring, D’var Torah writing & social justice. Most importantly, through preparing for this ritual each teen takes ownership of & celebrates how their Jewish identity is made manifest in their lives & in the community.
Derech – Post B’nai Mitzvah Program
JRC’s teen community for 8th – 12th grades empowers our new Jewish young adult learners to become leaders. Teens connect everyday interests to their Jewish identity & choose their own pathway(s) in JRC’s vibrant youth community. We offer affinity-based groups such as global Jewish cooking, Tzelem: LGBTQ+ Jewish identity exploration group, madrichim training & more, all led by our dedicated staff & clergy. Project Based Learning
Students acquire deeper knowledge & connection to Jewish practices through active exploration & reflection upon the experience. Our curriculum includes projects that encourage students to explore meaningful questions that apply to their own lives & to share their understanding with peers as they dive deeply into Jewish concepts.
Inclusion & Anti-Racism
Kehillah supports learners of all ages & abilities in cultivating joy & resilience by teaching sacred practices & values. Every individual in our community is loved for who they are, celebrating their gender identity & expression, sexual orientation, racial identities, degree of Jewish knowledge, or their multifaith families. In addition to our group of talented teachers & clergy, our professional inclusion coordinator collaborates with parents, students, and staff to actively support all learners. Our teachers are trained with an anti-racist lens as we strive to be an anti-racist congregation that includes Jewish experiences from many backgrounds.
There’s something for everyone at Kehillah! As students head to their classrooms, adults may join our main sanctuary or minyan services, participate in movement or arts programming, Jewish learning, or spend Shabbat morning having coffee at our weekly Brewchim Ha’baim Coffee Lounge with other JRC members. Once a month, the entire family joins together at Chodesh Shabbat Family Education experiences.

Reconstructionist Judaism – Deeply Rooted, Boldly Relevant
Judaism is rooted in ancient traditions, practices, & texts that have evolved & adapted to thrive in our own times. We balance between connection to our Jewish past with the real challenges, identities & values of our present. Our Judaism is wholly inclusive & our students learn Judaism that is progressive, egalitarian, creative & relevant to the world they live in now, while building the skills to carry their Judaism with them as they continue to transform our ever-changing world.
