Lakefront Shabbat Service with Rabbi Rachel Weiss and Rhonda Stein Plus Heavy Shtetl Klezmer Music During the Picnic

August 1, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

All summer long, JRC moves our sanctuary to the Evanston lakefront, with outdoor services surrounded by nature and the beauty of Lake Michigan. This spiritually uplifting (and child and dog-friendly) service feels a bit like summer camp, a bit like Ravinia, and entirely like JRC. Bring your family and friends. Lakefront Shabbat is a wonderful opportunity to learn about JRC. Services will be livestreamed on the JRC Facebook Page for those preferring to join us virtually. Click here to access our digital Lakefront Shabbat Siddur.

6:00 pm | Bring Your Own Picnic
7:00 pm | Service

Tonight’s Lakefront Shabbat will kick off with a bring-your-own picnic dinner with klezmer music by Heavy Shtetl. The service will be led by Rabbi Rachel Weiss and with musical accompanist Rhonda Stein. Tonight we will honor JRC members who have warmly welcomed new members into our community with a special blessing (and sweatshirts!). We are also thrilled to celebrate the aufruf of Emma Hultgren and Eric Gould. Mazel tov to the couple, and to Emma’s parents Sandy Spatz and Tracy Hultgren!

Please join us following the service for an oneg sponsored by Kathy Wildman & Nancy Katz and Anne Wildman in memory of Kathy and Anne’s father Wesley Wildman, and by Sandy Spatz and Tracy Hultgren in honor of Emma and Eric’s aufruf and upcoming marriage.

We meet Fridays at Elliot Park with a few exceptions. Check our our evolving Lakefront Shabbat calendar. We’ll be adding details about musical accompanists and member d’var givers throughout the summer.

In the case of inclement weather, check this calendar listing after 4:30pm on the day of Lakefront Shabbat for updated information.
