An Introduction to the Talmud — Sundays, June 7–28, 9:30–11 am CDT

“You teach Talmud? What’s that?!” These are questions put to Sarra Lev by Jews and non-Jews alike, each and every time they are introduced to a new person. You’ve heard the term, but you have never been quite sure what it refers to. You know it’s important, but why? You think it’s a holy text, but have no idea when or where it comes from. Is it related to Torah? What’s in it? In these four sessions, Sarra Lev will tackle these questions, and introduce learners to some of the contents and modes of thought found in the Talmud. Join us!

Rabbi Sarra Lev, Ph.D., (they/them), professor of Rabbinic Literature, equips students with the tools to engage in a lifetime of Talmud study, inviting them into a conversation spanning centuries. They are the author of And the Sages Did Not Know: Early Rabbinic Approaches to Intersex (University of Pennsylvania, 2024).

JRC has purchased a congregational enrollment. Visit the weekly JRC newsletter for the link to register, or email info@jrctogether.org.
