Where to Age Discussion Group | Learn about Geriatric Care Managers with Marie Davidson

Where To Age – a JRC Discussion Group
You are invited to join an informal group gathering at JRC once a month to share and learn from each other about the WHERE of aging. Regular gatherings occur first Sunday of each month from 10am-12pm in the JRC Double Classroom on the second floor. Bring a munchie if you feel inspired, JRC will provide coffee and tea.
This month our focus topic will be Geriatric Care Managers, led by Marie Davidson. A Geriatric Care Manager, often a licensed nurse or social worker, can provide needs assessment and recommendations; advocate for you with the medical and health insurance systems; and guide you through admission or discharge during transitions to and from the hospital or rehab. Instead of providing caregivers directly, Geriatric Care Managers will help you find, interview, employ and manage caregivers.
What?
A circle of folks listening to each other’s stories and sharing their own.
A place to share your thoughts, questions, personal experiences, ideas and concerns about the “WHERE” of aging.\
A place to be heard and supported by others.
A place to benefit from the accumulated knowledge of everyone in the group.
Story and Discussion Possibilities
The WHERE of aging is complicated and involves many, many decisions. But just to get started, here are a few thoughts:
My priorities for life as I age (health care, safety, financial security, avoiding isolation, etc.). What is most important to me? Least important? What would be a “deal breaker”?
Is it possible for me/us to “age at home”? What are the barriers and how can I/we overcome them? Are there barriers that cannot be overcome?
If not at home, then where? How do I judge “retirement community” options? What should I look for, given my priorities?
